The Hallicrafters, benannt nach einem legendären amerikanischen Hersteller von Radioausrüstung, sind ein Kurzwellen-Soundscape Duo aus Brooklyn, NY. Seit 1992 manipulieren Eric Hubel und Algis Kyzys als The Hallicrafters Signale aus Kurzwellenempfängern, Pulsgeneratoren und elektromagnetischem Rauschen der Erdatmosphäre in Echtzeit und spielen so – live auf der Bühne – die Ionosphäre als ihr Instrument. The Hallicrafters sind unter anderem beim Festival du Nouveau Cinema in Montreal, dem Electric Eclectic Festival in Ontario, der Radiostation WFMU und in Clubs wie Cooler oder CBGB’s in New York City, unter anderem auch mit Partnern wie Merce Cunningham aufgetreten.

Algis Kizys ist als Musiker und Klangkünstler primär für seine Arbeit als Bassist mit Bands wie Swans, Foetus, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, Glenn Branca und Lydia Lunch/Retrovirus bekannt. Eric Hubel hat als Musiker, Komponist und Performance Künstler in den vergangenen 30 Jahren die Avantgarde Postindustrial Bewegung mitgeprägt und dabei mit KünstlerInnen wie Glenn Branca, Matthew Barney, Jonathan Bepler, Elliot Goldenthal, J. G. Thurlwell und Eve Sussman and the Rufus Corporation gearbeitet. (VK)

Algis Kizys is sound artist/composer/musician/director residing in Brooklyn, NY. He has performed with bands such as Swans, Foetus, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, Glenn Branca, Of Cabbages And Kings, Pigface, Lydia Lunch/Retrovirus, amongst others, as well as with visual artists such as Eve Sussman, Simon Lee, and Matthew Barney with Jonathan Bepler. His film credits include Gus Van Sant’s “Finding Forrester” , Eve Sussman’s “The Rape of the Sabine Women” and “whiteonwhite:algorithmicnoir”, David Jacobson’s “Tomorrow You’re Gone”, and Jonathan Bepler and Matthew Barney’s “River of Fundament”. He has co-directed, with Simon Lee, a film interpretation of Ted Hughes’ “Crow, the Life and Song of the Crow” entitled “Where Is The Black Beast”, which has shown at the Rotterdam Film Festival, The Berlin Poetry Festival, at IFC in New York as part of their “Short Attention Span Cinema” series, and as a 4 screen installation in unistereo. He has directed, for stage, Samuel Beckett’s “Krapp’s Last Tape” and Eugene O’Neill’s “Hughie” at the Wallabout Oyster Theatre, Brooklyn. He is currently involved in a bouzouki trio, several improvisational music projects, The Hallicrafters, a shortwave radio duet, and the Triangles, a collective who are composing/performing an ongoing comedy and ambient broadcast installation for the Electric Eclectic Festival, Ontario. Upcoming projects include a film of “Krapp’s Last Tape” set in rural Maryland.

Eric Hubel is a musician, composer and performance artist, based in New York City. For the past 30 years he has been at the forefront of the avant-garde post industrial movement and has worked with Glenn Branca, Matthew Barney, Jonathan Bepler, Elliot Goldenthal, J. G. Thurlwell, Eve Sussman and the Rufus Corporation. He studied acoustics, composition and electronic music with Gunner Schonbeck, Joel Chadabe, Vivian Fine and, Milford Graves at Bennington College in the late 70’s. His work has taken him all over the world, and is currently featured in Matthew Barney’s “River of Fundament”.  Recent performances include Brooklyn Academy of Music, Primavera Sound Festival, Villette Sonique, Manchester International Art Festival, Art Basel, Donau Festival, Berlin Atonal, London Contemporary Music Festival, Festival du Nouveau Cinema, Mostra SESC de Artes, Bang on a Can Marathon, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
